My PDF looks fine on my computer, but when I send it to a printer the fonts show up wrong and the layout shifts. I think the fonts aren’t getting embedded, and the print shop needs the file by tomorrow morning.

had the same issue last month sending a checklist to print. i reopen the original in word or whatever you used and save as pdf again looking for any option to include or embed the fonts. tbh some fancy downloaded fonts just won’t embed so i swap them for arial. that stopped the layout from shifting at the shop for me.

If you still have the original document, export it again as PDF and look for “embed fonts” or “PDF/X” in the save settings. PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 is usually safest for a print shop, and Acrobat Pro can confirm under File \> Properties \> Fonts that each font says Embedded or Embedded Subset. If the fonts cannot embed because of licensing, convert a copy of the text to outlines, but keep your editable original.

Classic one, I see this at the campus help desk all the time. First check: open the PDF, go File \> Properties \> Fonts tab, if it doesn’t say Embedded next to each font, that’s your problem. Quickest fix is to re-export from the original file, in Word that’s File \> Options \> Save and tick Embed fonts in the file. If you only have the PDF, Acrobat Pro’s Preflight tool can force embed them too. Good luck with tomorrow!
